Why Do You Think You Need Fixing?
You think you need fixing because when something goes wrong, doesn't live up to your expectations, or you fall short of your own goals, you assume the problem is you.
You believe there is a deficiency in you and you wrap your identity around that idea.
I'm here to tell you there's nothing wrong with you. Never has been, never will be.
It's convenient to think you're the problem. When you believe that, you spend your time trying to fix yourself which ends up distracting you from going after your goal or doing the next right thing.
It causes a web of shame and despair. You try so hard and feel like you can't quite put your finger on how to change your situation.
I get it. The question of, "What's wrong with me?," has come up so often in my life.
- What's wrong with me that I responded so awkwardly?
- What's wrong with me that they didn't hire me?
- What's wrong with me that my child won't listen.
- What's wrong with me that I don't want to turn this into a business? I should want to, right?
- What's wrong with me that I want to enjoy life but really struggle to?
To think there is something wrong with me is faulty thinking. It's a way to stay safe and keep me from stepping into my power. The same is true for you.
As Marianne Williamson said, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
